چکیده

This paper studies the optimization of hydrothermal systems. We shall use Pontryagin’s Minimum Principle as the basis for proving a necessary condition for the stationary functions of the functional, setting out our problem in terms of optimal control in continuous time, with the Bolza-type functional. This theorem allows us to elaborate the optimization algorithm that leads to determination of the optimal solution of the hydrothermal system. Finally, we present a example employing the algorithm developed for this purpose with the "Mathematica" package.

Epi-convergent discretization of the generalized Bolza problem in dynamic optimization

The paper is devoted to well-posed discrete approximations of the so-called generalized Bolza problem of minimizing variational functionals defined via extended-real-valued functions. This problem covers more conventional Bolza-type problems in the calculus of variations and optimal control of differential inclusions as well of parameterized differential equations. Our main goal is find efficie...

Duality in Convex Problems of Bolza over Functions of Bounded Variation

This paper studies fully convex problems of Bolza in the conjugate duality framework of Rockafellar. We parameterize the problem by a general Borel measure which has a direct interpretation in certain problems of financial economics. We derive a dual representation for the optimal value function in terms of continuous dual trajectories and we give conditions for the existence of solutions. Comb...

Equivalence of multitime optimal control problems

Many science and engineering problems can be formulated as optimization problems that are governed by m-flow type PDEs (multitime evolution systems) and by cost functionals expressed as curvilinear integrals or multiple integrals. Though these functionals are mathematically equivalent on m-intervals, their meaning is totally different in real life problems. Our paper discusses the m-flow type P...

Hydrothermal Optimal Power Flow Using Continuation Method

The problem of optimal economic operation of hydrothermal electric power systems is solved using powerful continuation method. While in conventional approach, fixed generation voltages are used to avoid convergence problems, in the proposed algorithm, they are treated as variables so that better solutions can be obtained. The algorithm is tested for a typical 5-bus and 17-bus New Zealand networ...

Necessary Optimality Conditions for an Optimal Control Problem Governed by an Inclusion with Discontinuous Right—Hand Side

We deal with an optimal control problem of the Bolza type, where the controlled system is governed by a generalized sweeping process, which is a special differential inclusion with discontinuous right-hand side. Employing a suitable constraint qualification, we restate the problem using distance functions and use the fuzzy sum rule to obtain fuzzy optimality conditions. Furthermore, we derive p...
